Greene County

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for getting involved in the Greene County MHRB levy renewal initiative.

The recent unprecedented state budget cuts for mental health and recovery services have left an enormous deficit in our ability to provide our three county partner agencies the funding needed to provide relied upon services to the residents of Greene County.

The November 3 levy renewal for 1.5 mils has become even more important in view of these dramatic state cuts of 35% to mental health services and 11.5% to drug and alcohol recovery services.  While the county renewal levy will not make up for the state cuts, it will help keep in place the community safety net which thousands of vulnerable children, seniors and adults rely upon to help lead a richer, fuller, better life.

Renewal of the Greene County levy will mean NO NEW TAXES for property owners.  They will continue to pay the same rates they are currently paying.  Currently the owner of a $100,000 property pays $32.40 a year--that's less than a dime a day!  The key message here is that we are asking taxpayers for nothing new.  A yes vote means “NO NEW TAXES.”  This message needs to be made clear to voters as does the urgency of the current situation for our clients and our dedicated staff.

With over one-third of our total budget already cut by the state we simply cannot afford to lose a renewal levy ballot issue in November.  The impact will be devastating to many of our most vulnerable residents and many vital treatment services as well, services Greene County residents rely on, will be closed down or severely reduced.

The renewal of the Greene County levy will continue to provide funding for vital programs.  Finally, it’s important for you to understand that individual county levy funds are never pooled or co-mingled with other counties.  This means money raised in Greene County through a levy is used exclusively for the residents of Greene County.

Thank you for your continued dedication and support.  I look forward to working closely with you to seek levy approval in November.
